Benefits of solar power

On sunny days when the light is bright and the air is warm, it seems a shame not to capture that energy and use it to power features within our garden. There are several different garden ornaments that can be solar powered; the most obvious one is solar lighting, which charges up during the day and comes on once the sun has set. There are also other solar powered devices such as solar water fountains.

Why use solar power?

One of the main benefits of using solar power is that once the garden decoration has been bought it does not cost anything extra to power it. This is in contrast to other types of fountains, which require some other power source in the form of either mains power or battery power. Either way, these other power sources will cost money to use, and in the case of mains power, cabling will have to be run to the fountain.

Other benefits of solar powered devices

There are additional benefits to using solar power over mains electricity. One of the key ones is that you do not have to fix your garden ornaments in one place. With mains electricity to move something once it is installed requires moving the cable as well, and as this is likely to be dug in, then this will not be a simple process. However a small solar panel is light and easy to move.

Aren’t solar powered fountains more expensive?

No, they are no more expensive that identical water fountains that require mains power. This is because the technology that is used within the water pumps is identical and the only difference is the type of connections that are provided due to the different voltages that are supplied by mains and solar power sources.
